Twitter users accused the White House of lying after the deputy press secretary appeared to try to cover up a gaffe President Biden made when announcing an executive order to protect access to abortion .
During a Friday speech at the White House, Biden said this while talking about his action to preserve “reproductive rights.”
“It should be noted that the percentage of women who register to vote and vote is consistently higher than the percentage of men who do. End quote. Repeat the line,” Biden said.
Social media was quick to point out that Biden had inadvertently read the speaker’s notes telling him where the quote ended, and then a note asking him to repeat it.

But, deputy press secretary Emilie Simons, responding to the video of the Biden gaffe posted by senior digital strategist for X Strategies, Greg Price, tried to correct the record.
“No. He said, ‘let me repeat the line,'” Simons replied.
Price then responded to the White House aide with this: “Yes, I totally believe that you and your boss are definitely no vegetable.”

Price continued to tweet at Simons, noting that she previously worked as communications director for Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California and accusing her of being “paid to lie for a living.”
Town Hall reporter Mia Cathell pointed out that Simons actually retweeted her own tweet.
A number of other prominent Twitter users also called out Simons for his tweet.
“Anyone can see the video and hear what he said, but you’re lying about it. Do you think 1984 was an instruction manual? Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spokeswoman Christine Pushaw tweeted.
“Even if you assume that’s what he was supposed to have said, or what he meant, that’s absolutely not what he actually said. The video is right there. He says, ‘ End of quote. Repeat the line, ‘” The DC Examiner’s Jerry Dunleavy chimed in.

Several other social media accounts also called out the White House.
Biden has had more than a few instances in which he misunderstood teleprompter speaker notes, or left the script, leading to a number of blunders and backtracking from the White House.
